Inside the real estate brokerage in a challenging market

Nice article from https://www.mpamag.com/ by Steven Randell that discuss's the challenges and make up of today's Realtors.

"A new study from the National Association of Realtors shows that its membership rose from 1.22 million to 1.30 million in the year to April 2018 with 29% of members having less than 2 years’ experience (up from 28%)."

I have personally been a Realtor for 18 years and understand that it takes 3-4 years to really understand what you are looking at in real estate and understand all the different faucets.

Sold a home in North Royalton that my sellers needed 2-3 days to move out. The buyers agent was new and wrote up the addendum to say that my sellers could basically stay in the home her buyers purchased indefinitely and would never have to move out. I of course got that corrected, and the buyers agent laughed about it.

It is not mentioned in this article, but technology is also playing a huge factor on how much business is being done by an agent. For example Instagram is a hot potato for marketing and agents need to know how that works. Internet is a huge open playing field that is not dominated by Realtor's anymore. You need to know how to use technology to assist your clients in finding homes.

I still believe a Realtor is a must when purchasing a home. They are educated and trained to understand all the disclosures and inspections needed to ensure their clients have full knowledge of a property. That is something technology will never replace.

"The lure of the real estate industry remains strong despite market conditions making sales tougher in some markets."

"A new study from the National Association of Realtors shows that its membership rose from 1.22 million to 1.30 million in the year to April 2018 with 29% of members having less than 2 years’ experience (up from 28%)."

"“While inventory shortages continue and home prices remain high, NAR has seen a whopping 6% increase in membership over the last year,” Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist stated."

According to Tom Ferry 87% of all Realtors fail to make it in the industry Click here to see his opinion.  That is a lot of Realtors and the reason they fail in my opinion is because they do not know how to market or negotiate. You need to have all the tools in your tool box and in the Real Estate industry and most brokers will not give them to you. You have to get them and learn them yourself plus make an income.

"The median age of Realtors this year is 54, up one year from 2017; 63% are female; and many join from careers in management, business, or finance. Just 5% said real estate was their first career."

I will be 56 this year and this is not my first career, but my last one for sure. Building a business in a challenging real estate market takes a lot of savey and know how. The only way to get that is doing a lot of real estate........over 1000+ transactions and counting. Call Brett 216-703-5740 EXP Realty Ohio and 602-363-6551 EXP Realty Arizona
