When your looking for a home you need to know what the area offers in amenities and if you have children you want to know what schools are available in the neighborhood.
Always get a home inspection when purchasing any home. Even if it is an as is home you can still have a trained eye contractor or licensed inspector get you a report. The key to vacant homes is understanding what might need to be done mechanically and updating cost.
I have personally helped clients rehab 1000+ properties and have seen about everything in home issues. The major problem with most homes is getting a better price on paint, flooring, kitchen cabinets, labor cost and the quality of the work you can expect to receive.
