Personally I have been in 9 brokerages with all the different commission splits and their ways that you needed to run your real estate business.
I was speaking to a friend and their brokerage actually told them that they could not discount a listing fee. Another Realtor had come into the home before my friend was able to promote his abilities to the home seller.
He mentioned to his broker that he wanted to discount the listing fee so he could get a listing and commission paycheck. His broker immediately told him that they could not discount their fee and basically they would not get a paycheck. The property sold in 4 days and the other Realtor made a nice commission and enjoyed another property on their resume.
At the end of the day a Realtor has their own business and they have to go out and get business to create commission checks. I have been doing that for 21 years and it is not easy to do with the wrong brokerage.
As a Realtor I want all the tools to get a listing. I do over 100+ transactions a year. There are so many ways for a Realtor to get great pay and a lot of deals. You need to have the freedom to go do that especially in today's low inventory and highly competitive real estate market.
